Cowcliffe
preschool has been providing valuable childcare for over 50 years
and has become an important part of the local community and a
stepping stone to Fixby Junior & Infants School. At
Cowcliffe, excellent childcare is provided in a warm and safe
environment, helping to develop social skills and preparing children
for the transition into school life. The preschool benefits
families, the school and even the local economy.
A committee of volunteers ensures that everything runs smoothly,
however in recent years the building has needed many essential
repairs. These repairs along with a lot of care from the
committee and staff are what have kept the building going far beyond
the expected lifespan of the building. But, even with all this
care, there is only so much that can be done and the building is
fast becoming beyond normal repair. Radical measure need to be
taken to enable the preschool to continue to operate and provide the
amazing service that it is known for.
The committee have been working with the school and Kirklees
planning, to come up with a solution and will soon be seeking
planning permission for a full refurbishment of the building.
We are expecting the total cost of the project to be in the region
of £72,000. Sounds a lot doesn’t it? We thought so too, but
rest assured, we are working hard to get the best possible price for
the refurbishment and we are hoping to complete the work during the
summer holidays in 2018.
Once planning permission is awarded, the hard work starts and we
have to raise the money needed by summer 2018. Fundraising has
always been a challenge and never more so than in the current
climate, so we have taken on experienced fundraiser and project
manager, Denise Armstrong, to help run the project and raise the
money.
Denise is heading up a number of fundraising initiatives and will
need as much help as possible and that’s where you come in.
Here’s how you can help:
Make a donation – it’s the simplest and most effective way of
boosting the refurbishment pot and it’s so easy, just click on the
‘Donate’ link above. Any amount is very much appreciated, from
£1 to £100, it all helps.
Spread the news and ask family, friends and colleagues to help – the
more people we can involve, the more we can raise. Tell
everyone you know about the campaign and how it will benefit your
little ones and ask them to donate.
Let us know if you have any contacts in businesses and organisations
that might be able to help – corporate involvement is really
important, from dress-down days, to major donations, there’s many
ways they can help and we’ll have greater success with companies, if
you can help us to ‘get a foot in the door’.
Over the coming months, we’ll keep you updated on the progress of
the campaign and from time to time, we may ask for help, so keep
checking the website and watch out for the preschool newsletters.
